The time has finally come and the bracket for the NCAA Division 2 national playoffs has been announced. 38 teams will compete for the national title and among them are quite some teams with SOCCERSHIPS players.

The Sunshine State Conference is known to be one of the top conferences in D2 Men’s soccer. Barry University (13-3-1) with SOCCERSHIPS goalie Alex Kortus (Germany, MSV Duisburg) exceeded all expectations and qualified for the national tournament. The team from Miami will face Spring Hill College (Alabama) in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.

After an outstanding season, the Queens University of Charlotte Men’s Soccer (10-5-1) team qualified for the national tournament as well. The team of Head Coach Oliver Carias will face Tusculum in the 1st round of the national tournament. The winner will then face the region’s #1 seed Young Harris (16-0-0). Two SOCCERSHIPS players had a huge impact on the success off the Queens University of Charlotte Men’s Soccer team. Michael Hornsby, a sophomore from Biberach, Germany, played and started 15 games for the Royals this season and was named 1st team All-Conference. Goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk, a junior from Hamburg, Germany, transferred prior to the 2018 season from Cleveland State University (NCAA D1) to QUC and became the starting Goalkeeper for the Royals right away. Sebastian has outstanding experience between the pipes as he has played at the highest youth and amateur level in Germany prior to his intercollegiate soccer career. As well as Michael, Sebastian played and started every single game for the Royals and was named 2nd team All-Conference.

Post University qualifies for the national tournament

Post University (11-7-1, Connecticut) is the current CACC champion and will start in the first round of the national tournament with a game vs. Mercy. The SOCCERSHIPS graduate student Tim Nepomuck and Max Waas started their intercollegiate career prior to the 2018 season and can name themselves conference champion right away.

National Champion starts in round 2

Kay Maletzki was scouted at our 2018 showcase and secured himself a soccership with the current national champion, the University of Charleston (West Virginia, 16-0-2).
